Our initiatives are aimed to elevate the economic status of Belize while preserving the natural environment of the country as the property is pushed toward the best possible productive use. Place the following picture into the Image Placeholder on the left hand side under the menu.
We have worked with a number of national and international investors to expand the scope of the project and its dimensions, worked tirelessly with environmental organizations in the analysis and preservation of the property’s ecological, geological, and historical (Mayan ruins) attributes and implemented best practices for its ongoing management.
HIGHLIGHTS OF PAST ACHIEVEMENTS:
- Paid all back taxes neglected by the predecessors.
- Recruited and hired an experienced international consultant and Harvard Business School Graduate to evaluate and revitalize the entire corporate and asset situation.
- Employed a local Belizean to co-manage day to day operations onsite.
- Employed two forest rangers to establish vehicular and foot mounted patrols to protect wildlife and all valuable natural resources from hunters/poachers - unexcavated Mayan Ruins, timber, ecosystems, wildlife, medicinal plants, aquaculture etc. Managed on-site employees and assisted directly in responsible preservation of the lands resources.
- Teamed up with two of the most senior, in-country ecologists, to establish an easement for a Northern Biological Corridor, (4,500+acres) to protect natural corridor habitat routes linking Shipstern Nature Reserve to Freshwater Creek Forest Reserve (part of the Mesoamerican Corridor Program).
- Hired 2 North American consultants to live and manage the asset full time while evolving the scope of our in country operations.
- Formed a Subdivision Advisory Committee by strategically selecting a group of prominent professionals with physical experience on the land, utilizing expertise from their respected fields to collectively determine the best possible course of action for development.
- Pushed forward with a master-planned subdivision of the Property according to best land use. In November 2003, provisional approval has been granted from the GOB to subdivide.
- Formulated an international sales & marketing program.
- Built 2 websites to give the Property and our ongoing sustainable timber operation worldwide exposure: www.balamjungle.com & www.balamhardwood.com
- Used GPS coordinate system to complete ground reconnaissance of the raw, undeveloped land and to identify specific land characteristics across the Property. State of the art software, such as AutoCad and Arcview GIS were used to successfully plot all upgraded road systems and to precisely analyze and identify overall topography.
- A prominent local geologist, Technical Director of Belize Minerals Ltd., was contracted to undertake a geological investigation to determine the potential for commercial occurrences of hydrocarbons, metalliferous ores and industrial minerals/rocks (non-metallic) on the property.
- Developed government and professional relationships that have lead to the active involvement of the country in backing the pragmatic development of the lands.
- Employed directly and indirectly over 40 various in-country professionals from their respective firms.
- Initiated a sustainable timber operation on the Property’s 43,000+ acres of hardwood timberland.
- Introduced lumber product to both local and foreign markets with full export privileges.
- Opened a full service lumberyard in Orange Walk Town.
- Initiated a complete reforestation program for hardwood species impacted by the timber operation.
- Contracted Wildtracks, a multi-facetted, non-profit, conservation organization to complete a Coastal Survey and Biodiversity Assessment of the Property to steer initial development planning through consideration for vital natural environments.
- A Natural Resource Inventory was completed to identify non-wood forest products with commercial value and to identify critical conservation areas, such as a Northern Biological Corridor and a Woodstork sanctuary. The inventory includes recommendations for proper management and preservation of the property’s resources, while prudently considering how to put the Property towards its best possible productive use.
- Contracted a local construction crew, to build over 30 miles of two-lane, all-weather, marl roadway, in order to provide access to every region of Property. This includes the establishment of roadway between the southern boarder of the Property and the old northern highway, making it possible to access the Property in one hour’s drive from Philip Goldson International Airport in Ladyville (currently the only international airport in Belize).
- Completed an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in preparation for construction of a coastal roadway.
HIGHLIGHTS - 2007 INITIATIVES:
- Upgrading of current road systems and additional road construction to continue to improve the level of infrastructure on the Property.
- Completion of the Coastal Roadway, which will access the Caribbean Sea between Spanish Pt. Lagoon and Bulkhead Lagoon from the interiors of Property. This coastal access is currently the first and only coastal access to the Caribbean in this region of northern Belize.
- Development of beachfront in close proximity to the coastal road and pier. Several lots will be filled and a beach developed to demonstrate the feasibility of coastal development.
- Construction of a pier at the end of the coastal road, which will allow for direct shipment of materials to and from the Property’s southern coastal region.
- Construction of a Agroforestry Center in the Northern Bulkhead area, close to the Western boarder of the Property.
- Completion of the Annual Plan of Operation for our Forest Management Plan, which will provide a 100% inventory of trees within this years harvest area.
- Application and approval for Certification of the entire timberland area on the Property.
- Development of non-wood timber products such as xate and bay leaf palm for the local thatch roofing market.
- Continued preservation and management of the Northern Biological Corridor.
- Resurvey of portions of the Property’s boundaries.
- Exploration and assessment of significant Mayan sites that are discovered.
