Balam Jungle Estates

Our mission, which remains constant, is to reveal the massive potential and inspire the positive sustainable development of the Balam Jungle Estates.

Location

map

The Property accounts for a large region of land, generally described as being located in the southeast corner of the Corozal District, just south of where the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico greets the Caribbean Sea. Both the Northern and Southern Bulkhead areas are located on the property and the coastal waters offshore of the property are often referred to as part of the “Belizean Riviera.” Major coastal lagoons such as Bennett’s Lagoon and Spanish Pt. Lagoon are easily identifiable on almost any Belize country map.

The Property is situated near a number of communities and other identifiable areas in this region, which include (* indicates a community with available services and resources located nearby Balam Jungle):

Shipstern Lagoon & Shipstern Nature Reserve

This area is a stunningly beautiful area of northern Belize found just a few kilometers north of Balam Jungle’s northern boundary. Shipstern is connected to Balam Jungle through the Corozalito waterways, which are a labyrinth of breathtaking canals perfect for fulfilling every canoer’s fantasy. The 22,000-acre Shipstern Nature Reserve boasts three different northern hardwood forests, along with savannah, and mangrove habitats all similar to what you can find on the Balam Jungle Estates.

Fireburn

The small community of Fireburn is located approximately 6km north of the property’s northern boundary. The community will be expanding with the recent nearby discovery of one of the largest Mayan Ruin sites in all of Northern Belize.

*Little Belize

This town boarders the property to the North-west (located at 18N, 88W). The population is almost entirely Mennonite and according to the 2000 census, Little Belize had a population of 2,059 people. The Mennonites who live there are renowned for their uncanny work ethic, which has converted the rural area into a neat, highly productive farmland. They fully participate in the Belizean economy and provide indispensable services and products to the surrounding areas in the region. The Mennonites of Little Belize are more traditional than other Mennonite divisions found in the country and commute using horse-drawn buggies, while refraining from using modern farm equipment.

To the southwest the property is bordered by the Freshwater Creek Forest Reserve, which is managed by “Friends of Freshwater,” a nonprofit organization that now collaborates with Balam Jungle’s management team to enhance protection of resources and develop sustainable harvesting programs on both properties.

Corozal District & Belize City District Boundary Line

The survey line that separates the Corozal District form the Belize City District can be found running alongside Balam Jungle’s southern boundary line.

Bomba Village

This very small village is located approx. 10km south of the southern boundary of the property. The village is connected to the sea by way of the Northern River, which many fisherman and tourism boats use to access the mainland on tours of various attractions in the north, including Altun Ha and Lamanai, two of the more popular and well-established Mayan ruin sites in the country. Hardwood carvings using Granadillo and Zericote species are big business for the village and a long-standing tradition, which has developed some of today’s greatest Belizean wood carvers.

*Maskall Village

This is a well-established community located approx. 15km to the southwest of the property. Maruba Resort, arguably the greatest jungle resort in Belize, is located here and offers a great range of services and amenities, including spa and adventure packages. Maskall is a quaint Village with a single Gas station and a few small shops and markets for supplies.

*San Pedro on Ambergris Cay

To the east, the land borders on to the southern most part of Chetumal Bay, stretching north/south along the coast for 25km. From where the coastal road ends just north of Spanish Point Lagoon on the property, it is approximately 18.5km or a 15 minute boat ride due west of Ambergris Cay and San Pedro, one of the most popular tourist and world renowned scuba-diving locations in the Caribbean/Central America.
